A bamboo barrier is essential for controlling the spread of bamboo and preventing it from overtaking your garden or neighboring properties. Bamboo is a fast-growing plant with an extensive root system that can quickly become invasive if not properly managed. Installing a barrier creates a physical boundary that keeps bamboo roots contained, protecting nearby landscaping and structures from damage. It also allows you to enjoy the beauty and benefits of bamboo, such as privacy and aesthetic appeal, without the risk of it spreading uncontrollably. A well-installed bamboo barrier ensures a balanced, low-maintenance solution for managing this versatile plant. We’ve installed many a Bamboo Barrier around the Victoria and Saanich area and know how to tame this unique plant.
Why do you need a Bamboo Barrier?

Our Bamboo Barrier Installation Process
Consulation
After contacting us, we can set up an on-site meeting for you to show us your Bamboo project. We will discuss where you want the barrier installed, take measurements and provide an accurate quote.
Excavation
Our team will excavate the area where the Bamboo Barrier will be installed. If the bamboo is already established, we will cut, locate and pull up any runners so everything is contained. We can also install it in raised planters.
Barrier Placement
Once the trench or box is ready, the bamboo barrier, which is thick plastic and at least 2 feet deep, can be installed. It will be installed with a slight outward slant so when the rhizomes hit the barrier they will deflect upwards.
Sealing the joints
The Barrier will be overlapped by a foot or so and secured with metal bars and nuts and bolts and then taped over. This secures the seam to not allow the bamboo to push through.
Backfill
After the Barrier is sealed tight, it can be backfilled with soil and the Bamboo can be planted, to never be able to escape.
The Bamboo Barrier Material
Bamboo barriers are typically made from durable, high-density materials like polyethylene, designed to withstand the pressure of aggressive bamboo roots. These materials are resistant to rot, corrosion and wear, ensuring long-lasting containment. The barrier’s thickness and flexibility allow it to be installed deeply and securely in the soil, creating an impenetrable boundary for bamboo’s spreading rhizomes. Choosing the right material is essential for effective bamboo management, and we ensure that every barrier we install is built to perform and endure for years to come.
